You’d never know from these photos that on the day I went to the King home, the rain in the Mississippi Delta was coming down in sheets. The rain did not stop coming for days and had us all underwater. Babies have a tendency to make everything seem a little brighter, to make storms and floods seem a little less terrible. They remind us that there is still good in the world and there is a bright light at the end of a dark night. The thing I love about newborn photography is that in spite of the sheer exhaustion and the haze of diapers, bottles, breastfeeding trials, worry over these tiny creations, and second guessing their every move, there is such a joy about new parents. The new love they have found and the wonder at the tiny being that has come into their lives just makes being a small part of their story so special to me. I love that I’m able to freeze this moment in time for them because those first few weeks are such a haze and honestly so hard to recall even just months down the road.
