You might be thinking “has she lost her mind, what does this song have to do with a photo session in the Mississippi Delta?” I probably have lost my mind but there are many other things about my life that would indicate that, this is not one of them. This session will go down in the history of Jamie Hardin Photography as the first time I’ve EVER gotten to sing that song with a kid that I was working with! We all know that us Texans are strange birds and have weird obsessions with our state. It’s true, I’ve drank the brown water and I’m definitely considering myself a Mississippi Delta girl these days, but I’ll always be a Texan at heart. Jackson was visiting his Delta family for the weekend and I was more than happy to get a smile out of him by singing one of my favorite childhood songs….maybe Jackson can teach the song to his cousin Hyde and Hyde can get all the Delta kids singing it…. haha.
“The stars at night, are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas. The prairie sky, is wide and high, deep in the heart of Texas. The sage in bloom is like sweet perfume, deep in the heart of Texas. Reminds me of, the one I love, deep in the heart of Texas. The cowboys cry – ki-yip-pie-yi, deep in the heart of Texas. The rabbits rush – around the brush deep in the heart of Texas. The coyotes wail, along the trail, deep in the heart of Texas. The doggies bawl – and bawl and bawl, deep in the heart of Texas“-June Hershey
