“This is my wish…..” {Mississippi Delta Children’s Photographer}

Hart Mini Session 2017 (4 of 9)

My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to, Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small, You never need to carry more than you can hold, And while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to, I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too, Yeah, this, is my wish…….”~Rascal Flatts

Spring mini sessions are one of my favorite times of the year! I always do two dates and April’s sessions did not disappoint. In the past I’ve gone for bold and colorful but this year I went a different direction and incorporated natural elements which have become more my style lately. I can’t wait for next weekend for the second day of sessions! Thank you to all the families who continue to trust me to capture your stories.

“At last my love has come along………” {Mississippi Delta Wedding Photographer}

At last the skies above are blue. My heart was wrapped up in clover the night I looked at you. I found a dream, that I could speak to. A dream that I can call my own. I found a thrill to press my cheek to. A thrill that I have never known…..”~Etta James

You can learn a lot about people just based on who they surround themselves with. In this sense, I learned a lot about this bride and groom at their wedding. I’ve attended and covered more weddings than I can count over the years and I can honestly say with the exception of my own wedding and a few close friends’ I have never felt so at home and at ease as I did with Meredith and Richard’s friends. They were kind, they were friendly, and they were a blast to hang out with. I know for a fact that the Mississippi Delta is full of people like this and many of them have attended multiple weddings I’ve covered, but I think size of this wedding allowed me to interact with people more than I normally get to.  I truly enjoyed myself on Saturday and I’m so thankful for the opportunities I get with my job to meet awesome people.

Meredith and Richard’s wedding was held at a family member’s home. When I told people I was having a wedding at the “Turner Mansion in Belzoni” everyone knew what I was referring to except for me. They all ooo’ed and ahhh’ed when I told them but I had no clue until I got there that day and it lived up to every expectation I had. This house was absolutely stunning with it’s large yard and front porch with dreamy light. This wedding was a southern dream.

The details that went into the day were so beautiful.

First looks with the dad are really one of my favorite wedding moments.

Richard and Meredith chose to see each other before the wedding and it was the perfect first look.

The garter got stuck in a tree on the first go round. I think most of the men would have left it there had the groom not knocked it back down for another shot.

The night got a lot more fun when the karaoke started and even the bride and groom got in on it.

I’ll share my world with you. Everything that I own. My earthly possessions they’re no good if I’m alone. Let me give you the sunshine while it’s fresh with morning dew. Can’t you see that I’m waiting to share my world with you?”~George Jones

Kristen & Steele were married yesterday on the banks of Lake Washington. It was a small, intimate ceremony surrounded by family and their children. I’m so honored to have been a part of their big day. It was perfect in every way.

Before the ceremony, we took some family pictures on the banks of the lake.

“You ask me what I like about Texas……” {Mississippi Family Photographer}

DSC_2248

You ask me what I like about Texas, I tell you it’s the wide open spaces! It’s everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande. It’s the Llano Estacado,  it’s the Brazos and the Colorado; Spirit of the people down here who share this land! It’s another burrito, it’s a cold Lone Star in my hand, it’s a quarter for the jukebox, boys. Play the sons of the mothers of the bunkhouse band!” ~Gary P. Nunn

For those of you don’t know me, I grew up in Texas. If you know any Texans, you know that we are all obnoxious about how amazing our state is. Sure, I love the Mississippi Delta and this is my home now but you know what they say…. You can take the girl out of Texas but you can’t take the Texas out of the girl. A few weeks ago I got to travel to my home state to visit friends and family. We stayed with one of my closest friends and my daughter’s godmother. While we were there we had an afternoon to just drive around a ranch and enjoy the outdoors. I took it as an opportunity to do a long overdue photoshoot with my daughter. Maggie Mae got to meet her first horse, we watched the cows, we ate dewberries straight off the vine, we picked wildflowers, and we explored an abandoned barn. It was perfect in every way.

“I’m undefined, I’m just beginning….” {Mississippi Senior Photographer}

Asia Senior Photos 2017-27

I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined, I’m just beginning. The pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned. Staring at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find. Reaching for something in the distance, so close you can almost taste it. Release your inhibitions, feel the rain on your skin. No one else can feel it for you only you can let it in….”~Natasha Bedingfield

If you have been a client of mine for the past six months, this young lady may look familiar. Asia is my right hand woman, she’s the oil that keeps my business machine working. I can’t even begin to describe how her working for me has helped lift a huge weight off my shoulders. She’s graduating and leaving me this summer and I’m so sad about it but happy for her future. She’s a smart, amazing woman and I can’t wait to see where life takes her!

“Stuff that’s real…..” {Mississippi Family Photographer}

Hitchcock 1 Year 2017 (48 of 62)

Stuff that works, stuff that holds up , the kind of stuff you don’ hang on the wall. Stuff that’s real, stuff you feel , the kind of stuff you reach for when you fall…….”~Guy Clark

Six months never seems like a long time until you meet a baby. In 6 months, they change so much they are almost unrecognizable. The first year for a child is such a big deal. They grow from this lump of clay into walking, talking human beings with amazing personalities. That’s just what happened with Tucker. I last saw him for his 6 month pictures and when I saw a couple weeks ago I was blown away by how much he had grown and how much personality he has now.

This session has all of my favorite things- nature, amazing sunlight, and a beautiful family. This may very well be one of my all time favorite sessions. Enjoy!

I’m forever yours, ever yours, faithfully….”~Journey

I was convinced yesterday that I would be shooting my second rainy wedding of the season but the weather cooperated and Jamee & Brett’s big day turned out to be amazing. Jamee was such a gorgeous bride and the details she put into her day were so simple and elegant.

The couple decided to see each other before their ceremony so we did a first look at the Thompson House where the bride had gotten ready with her bridesmaids. The porch was the perfect setting for such a special moment…their audience thought so too.

We also did wedding party pictures at the Thompson House before heading to the church for the ceremony. The clouds made for the dreamiest light and the children in the wedding party did not disappoint when it came to being adorable.

The ceremony was at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Leland, MS. A picturesque, little brick church with a quaint chapel. The perfect setting for an intimate, small ceremony.

The reception was a true Delta event at the Gin in Dunleith. A night full of dancing, cocktails, and amazing food, it was the perfect way to celebrate Jamee & Brett’s marriage.

“I hope you dance…..” {Mississippi Family Photographer}

DSC_1218

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder. You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger. May you never take one single breath for granted. God forbid love ever leave you empty handed. I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean. Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens. Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance“~Lee Ann Womack

This past fall I was honored to be asked by the Mitchell family to take some candid photos of their son to capture him and his personality. I had such a good time just letting their toddler be himself and play around in a pecan orchard. So when they asked me to do the same thing for their daughter I was super excited! This session has everything I love about photography and children: real smiles, real laughs, dancing and being themselves. Who needs boring posed photos when you can have ones that capture the spirit of your child’s personality!

“You know I hope and I pray that you believe me when I say this love will never fade away. Oh, because you are the best thing, you are the best thing, you are the best thing to ever happened to me…..” ~Ray LaMontagne

I’m so honored to be able to capture such a special milestone in the lives of these two people. Margaret’s family is truly like my own delta family and I can’t wait to shower her baby with the same kindness her family has shown my own daughter. Welcome to the world little Lidewij de Koning!

“We’ve got everything we need right here….” {Mississippi Documentary Family Photographer}

We got everything we need right here and everything we need is enough. Just so easy when the whole world fits inside of your arms. Do we really need to pay attention to the alarm? Wake up slow.…..”~Jack Johnson

There’s a famous quote that says “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Last year I spent every week documenting my family with my camera and capturing my little girl’s life through my lens. At the end of the year I made this gorgeous book of our year together as a family and it really made me cry looking at the images (it still does). At that moment I decided that I wanted to do this for other families on a smaller scale. I wanted to capture life as they are living it now to freeze these little moments so that when their kids are grown these memories will never fade. So I started offering documentary Story of Us sessions.

The Hawthorne family is my first family to do one of these 4 hour sessions this year and it has completely reinforced that I have found my calling. This is what I was meant to do-to document people’s lives whether it’s their family just hanging out in their pj’s or a wedding.

I welcome you to take a look at their story. Their family spending a Saturday morning doing exactly what they always do and it’s absolutely perfect and beautiful.
